Coldplay’s Chris Martin falls through a trapdoor on stage in Melbourne

Singer coldplay Chris Martin became the second international star in recent weeks to fall through a stage trapdoor during a performance in Melbourne. I’m no expert, but maybe it’s time to fix this, eh?

The band were playing the fourth show of their Music of the Spheres tour at Naarm at Marvel Stadium when the singer folded it, prompting a huge gasp from the crowd. In footage taken by members of the crowd, the “Viva La Vida” singer can be seen walking backwards and reading out signs made by spectators as he fell backwards through a hole in the stage.

Luckily, one of the technicians below anticipated the 47-year-old’s fall and reached out his hand in time to catch him.

“This is, uh… not planned,” the shocked singer said.

“Thanks for catching me.”

You can see the moment below.

Here’s another angle of the fall if you’re wondering what it looked like from the other side of the stage.

Admittedly, Martin recovered well from the frightening fall, making quick jokes to calm the nervous fans in the stadium.

During the show, Martin also paid tribute to the late cricketer. Shane Warnewith whom he was close friends.

“Let’s play this for Shane and his family,” Martin said.

“Our brother, we miss you. Every time we came to Melbourne we had fun hanging out with Shane and the whole Warne family.

“I don’t want to talk about it too much or I’ll start crying.”

This isn’t the first time a major international act has fallen through one of those pesky little hatches in Melbourne. Earlier this month Olivia Rodrigo was performing at the Rod Laver Arena – another major venue in Melbourne – when she ran across the stage and fell straight into an open manhole.

Luckily, she didn’t suffer from the nasty fall and also recovered like a champ.

Two sites? Two hatches? Seal them!!!
