You can insult all you want; you will still lose the elections on December 7

You can insult all you want; you will still lose the elections on December 7

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has told National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Mahama that “insults do not bring votes”.

The comment came in response to what Bawumia described as Mahama’s reliance on insults in his political activities.

Former President Mahama has come under fire from some members of the public who claim his remarks in recent political dialogues have been unduly offensive.

This backlash comes after Mahama recently responded to Vice President Bawumia, accusing him of “running away from the economy.” Quoting a famous line from Bill Clinton’s campaign, Mahama remarked: “It’s about the economy, you fool!”

Mahama’s response followed a list of 50 questions Bawumia directed at him in response to Mahama’s initial five questions about the economy.

Critics argue that as a former head of state, Mahama should refrain from using language that is perceived as offensive.

Addressing supporters in the Ahafo region during campaigning for the upcoming December 7 elections, Vice President Bawumia said no insult from Mahama would guarantee him victory.

“Many people see what is happening and some are afraid,” Bawumia said. “They are afraid because they are about to lose the general election. So, have you noticed that the insults have started? There is an Akan proverb: “You can’t buy a horse if you talk too long.” I’ll add that you can’t buy a horse with insults. Isn’t it? You can insult us as much as you like, but it will be in vain. You will still lose the election. All signs point to this.”
