Jake Paul and MVP Promotions categorically deny Mike Tyson’s accusations of fixing the fight

Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions has released a statement denying claims that his boxing match with Mike Tyson earlier this month was rigged.

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson

Paul, 27, shared the ring with Tyson, 58, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Although the booking of this match was heavily criticized given Tyson’s age, “Iron” Mike appeared to walk away unscathed. Despite this, the sight has led some to wonder whether the fight was rigged.

This is a claim Paul and his team categorically deny.

MVP Promotions denies rigging Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight

A statement was released by MVP Promotions in which the team indicated that rigging the fight was illegal and that the fight was sanctioned. Here is part of the statement:

“Following widespread inaccurate and unsubstantiated allegations that undermine the integrity of the Paul vs. Tyson fight, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) would like to provide clarity regarding the contractual agreements and nature of the fight.

“Faking a professional boxing match is a federal crime in the United States of America. Paul vs. Tyson is a professional match sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Both fighters conscientiously performed to the best of their abilities with the goal of winning the fight. There were absolutely no restrictions – contractual or otherwise – on any of the fighters. Each boxer was able to use his entire arsenal to win the fight. Any agreement to the contrary will be a violation of TDLR boxing rules.

“Trash talk and speculation are common in sports and athletes and promoters should tolerate meaningless comments, jokes and opinions. But to suggest that these fighters are giving it their all is not only naive, it is an insult to the work they put into their craft and the sport itself.”

Most recently, Hall of Famer Oscar De La Hoya shared his belief in his Cheer Thursday segment on social media that the fight was indeed rigged. It is unclear at this time whether De La Hoya’s video prompted MVP Promotions to make such a statement.
