Wayne County leaders approve salary hike, public hearing set for December

The Wayne County Board of Supervisors approved a 4% pay increase for its members and other county officials at its regular meeting on Nov. 19. Starting in 2025, council members’ salaries will increase to $19,041, and the chairman will earn $25,651. In 2026, these amounts will increase to $19,802 and $25,677, respectively.

Mileage reimbursement remains at the IRS rate of 67 cents per mile for county businesses. Walworth chief Michael Donalty withdrew, later raising concerns about self-imposed pay raises without independent oversight.

The board also finalized salary adjustments for key county positions, citing challenges in filling vacancies and maintaining competitiveness. The new annual salaries include $172,869 for county administrator, $163,084 for county prosecutor and $137,399 for sheriff.

These changes are subject to a public hearing scheduled for December 3 at 7:00 pm in the Board of Supervisors Chamber. Additional salary adjustments for union positions, including nursing and sheriff’s deputies, will be considered in future discussions.
