LOVES PARK, Ill. (WIFR) – Sunday night marks the unofficial start of the Christmas season for residents of Loves Park and Machesney Park.

Thousands of residents came out to catch candy and fireworks for another exciting Light Up the Parks parade.

The parade included quite a few floats featuring holiday icons like Mr. and Mrs. Claus, the Grinch, and even a few non-holiday icons like the Minions.

Amber Bryant has been watching the parade for years, but the last two years have been even more meaningful. Her daughter Gianna attended the parade as part of the junior Huskies cheerleading team.

Amber goes into more detail about what the event means to her: “She really enjoys it. I mean, obviously she’s into acrobatics. She does other things and my kids are great kids. Fine Arts Program at Maychesney Park. I’m very proud of her. I love being in society, it’s amazing. It’s wonderful when we all come together.”
