The Prairie View A&M football team is parting ways with head coach Leonard McDowell after three seasons with the program.

McDowell first joined the program in 2022. In three seasons, he led the Panthers to a 17–17 overall record and a 14–9 record in SWAC play.

“Coach McDowell’s commitment to helping our student-athletes succeed in life both personally and professionally is admirable and a true reflection of his character,” PVAMU Athletic Director Anton Goff said in a press release announcing McDowell’s contract would not be renewed.

Assistant coach Ashton Green took over coaching duties for the Panthers’ final regular season game on November 23, which they lost to Alabama State by a score of 9–6. They finished the 2024 campaign with a 5-7 record.

Goff also said PVAMU’s search for its next head coach continues.
