CHARLOTTE, North Carolina. (WIBW) – The Kansas City Chiefs bounced back from their first loss of the 2024 season with a 30-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The Chiefs struck first as Patrick Mahomes found Noah Gray for a 35-yard touchdown to end the opening drive.

Carolina added a field goal in response to make the score 7-3 just over five minutes into the game.

Spencer Schrader, who continued to replace Harrison Butker, then kicked a 25-yard field goal to give the Chiefs a 10–3 lead late in the first quarter.

Carolina started the second with another field goal. With 7:24 left, Schrader kicked from 41 yards out to make it 13-6 KC.

In the final minute of the first half, the Chiefs finally found the end zone again. Mahomes threw another touchdown pass to Gray, this time 11 yards, to make it 20-6.

As time expired, Carolina kicked its final field goal to head into the locker rooms with a 20-9 lead.

The Panthers would start the third quarter with a scoring drive that would last nearly nine minutes. They scored their first touchdown of the day when Bryce Young connected with DJ Moore for a 1-yard score to close Kansas City’s lead at 20-16.

Just a few minutes later the Chiefs were moving forward. Mahomes found DeAndre Hopkins in the end zone for a 27-16 lead to end the third quarter.

Carolina started the fourth quarter with a play and it wasn’t until 10 minutes later that they really put some pressure on the Chiefs.

Chuba Hubbard ran for 1 yard with less than two minutes remaining. Carolina went for the two-point conversion to tie the game, and it was successful, 27–27.

Which meant it was time for Mahomes’ magic.

As the Chiefs tried to push ahead for the win, Mahomes rushed for 33 yards to put them in prime scoring position.

Kansas City began to make time. and Schrader kicked the game-winning 31-yard field goal to seal the Chiefs’ 30–27 victory.

Patrick Mahomes completed 27 of 37 passes for 269 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Kansas City is now 10-1 on the season and will return to Arrowhead Stadium to host the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday at 2 p.m.
