Now it’s home sweet home for Ravichandran Ashwin, who was acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 9.75 crore at the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).

With the Rajasthan royals choosing to invest in their youth, including the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel, going forward, names like Ashwin and even Yuzvendra Chahal were not among the candidates who could have stayed with R.R.

There has been a lot of talk about Ashwin’s return home to Chennai and CSK have reportedly shown interest in the idea of allowing Dhoni, Jadeja and Ashwin to don the yellow suits together for the first time since 2015.

Ashwin himself had earlier added to the speculation that the spinner, who is also a YouTuber, interestingly sold himself to CSK in a mock auction that he organized as part of a series for his channel.

The 38-year-old spin master, who made his IPL debut back in 2008, obviously brings with him veteran knowledge and an ever-expanding all-round skill set that has seen Ashwin extend his successful career.

In his extensive IPL career spanning 211 matches, Ashwin has taken 180 wickets and scored 800 runs.

The wily off-spinner first came into limelight for his exploits with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. In the first season of the tournament in 2008, he made his debut for the Chennai team. But in the first two years he did not have many chances to show his talent. It wasn’t until the 2010 season that he started to make an impact. His sensational performances helped CSK win the IPL trophy twice in 2010 and 2011.

Ashwin spent six seasons with them before a two-year ban saw him selected for the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016. What followed was a mixture of emotion and success as Ashwin moved from one team to another, moving from Pune to Punjab, where he briefly captained the Rajasthan Royals team he represented last season.
