Man disqualified from driving for 36 years allegedly provoked police chase after crash in Sydney

A 52-year-old man, banned from driving for more than 30 years, allegedly led police on a chaotic chase in Sydney that ended at gunpoint.

Yesterday afternoon, as others patiently gave way at the Cabramatta roundabout, footage showed a Porsche plowing into an oncoming Lexus hatchback.

A road sign stopped the collision.

Highway Patrol arrived and the driver of the Porsche allegedly fled, leading police into the parking lot, out the back entrance of the paint shop and out the front door.

He eventually surrendered after an officer approached his position while hiding behind a car with his gun drawn.

Paint shop worker Carmen Tran said it “happened so quickly.”

“The police were right behind him too, so I don’t think he could have hidden,” she said.

Police began a pursuit on Cabramatta Road West after seeing a luxury SUV, a gray Porsche Cayenne, speed past, allegedly at speeds in excess of 30km/h.

The Porsche is also believed to have been driven unregistered, uninsured and with Audi Q7 plates.

Police initially launched a pursuit on Cabramatta Road West after seeing a luxury SUV, a gray Porsche Cayenne, speeding by at more than 30 kilometers per hour, the speed limit, on Saturday afternoon.

The Porsche is alleged to have been driven unregistered, uninsured and bearing Audi Q7 plates.

Police say they found a man with stolen keys to a motorcycle and another car.

After his license was taken away in 2005, he was not supposed to drive a car for another 17 years – he was disqualified until 2041.

Driving without a license is one of eight charges he now faces, along with speeding and failure to stop for police.

The 66-year-old driver of the Lexus was taken to Liverpool Hospital with minor injuries.

Tran said what she saw was “traumatic.”

“The woman who was in the car accident was also very shaken.”
