Lake effect rain subsides, dry most of weekend

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) – The Mid-Michigan area remains cloudy, and that trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

But the showers that came with the cloudy skies should subside by the weekend, giving us a chance to catch our breath for a moment. Try not to get used to this dry weather eventually taking over. Things will be even more volatile next week as we head into Thanksgiving, although there will be no major storm systems operating locally at this time.

This evening and night

Lake effect showers will be possible throughout this evening and overnight, but should remain isolated or widely scattered. With northwest winds our northwest areas near Roscommon, Ogemaw. etc., and the thumb will be most exposed to these rains. They should remain light and new precipitation should be minimal (less than 0.25 inches).

Low temperatures tonight will be in the 30s to 40s.

Temperatures in the 40s this afternoon won’t drop too much tonight due to continued cloud cover, and most of us will only get into the upper 30s and lower 40s this evening. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts of 20 to 25 mph.

Saturday and Sunday

Cloudy skies are expected for the weekend, but the weather should remain drier compared to several days this week. There will be a few lingering showers in the same north-westerly exposed areas mentioned above on Saturday, but as with Friday night these should not be heavy or cause any nuisance. We should start to see these showers taper off Saturday afternoon and evening.

High temperatures on Saturday are expected to be in the low to mid 40s with northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph and gusts near 25 mph.

Dry conditions should set in Saturday evening, but clouds will remain. Lows will range from the upper 20s to the low 30s.

Highs on Sunday will be the same or slightly warmer.

It will be a cooler start to Sunday, so despite southwesterly winds prevailing Sunday, high temperatures Sunday afternoon may not be much warmer, if at all. Plan for another day of temperatures around 40 degrees and perhaps a few days above 40 in our warmest regions.

At this time, no wet weather is expected on Sunday evening, but the next wet weather will arrive sometime on Monday, at which time rain is expected. Overnight lows through Monday morning will settle in the mid to upper 30s for most.
