NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) – Authorities in Nacogdoches are working to contain a fuel spill after a commercial vehicle crash that killed the driver.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle crash Friday in the 2000 block of Old Tyler Road, according to Assistant Police Chief Dan Taravella. Initial reports indicated a southbound commercial vehicle attempted to use the turn lane to pass other southbound drivers but then veered off the road, Taravella said.

According to police, the car hit trees along the highway and began to roll. According to Taravella, eyewitnesses helped pull the driver from the car, from which diesel fuel had leaked, but the man died at the scene.

TxDOT and the HazMat team responded to contain the fuel spill. Police said the driver’s name is being withheld until his family is notified.
