Bus left road to avoid crash in Portage Co.; 6 students received minor injuries

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a minor crash after a Southeast School District bus in Portage County pulled off the side of the road to avoid hitting a pickup truck that crossed the center line.

According to OSHP, it happened just after 7 a.m. on Scotts Corners Road in Palmyra Township.

Authorities say the 30 school bus was heading northwest when a pickup truck heading southeast on the same road veered left of center. The bus swerved to the side of the road to avoid a truck and ended up in a yard.

The OSHP said the pickup truck did not stop and drove off.

There were more than two dozen children on the bus when it happened.

The 52-year-old driver and six children suffered minor injuries, according to OSHP. The driver and two children were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The bus did not receive any damage.

The case remains under investigation.
