Another big victory for Donald Trump

In this sense, we have come full circle. Trump’s 2016 campaign was a source of humor even after he won the Republican nomination (because, of course, he couldn’t beat Hillary Clinton!). It was only after his shocking victory, and especially after he took office and started trying to implement all the terrible ideas he laid out during the campaign, that the #Resistance took over and the joker politician was no longer so funny. But now it has become socially acceptable again to find humor in Trump.

There is a risk of overinterpreting the rapid spread of this bizarre dance, which, like much of what Trump says or does, is stupid and lacks substance. I think I could write at length about what Trump’s convulsive movements during the famous gay anthem say about right-wing masculinity. But really he’s just squirming like an idiot.

But does it really matter when Christian Pulisic does it? It was perhaps an act of profound catharsis for the athlete, who had hidden his deep and abiding love for Trump for nearly a decade. But I believe Pulisic the most when he claims he didn’t actually mean anything by it and just thought it was “funny.” Firstly, this is kind of funny. On the other hand, dance is a truly viral trend. Over the weekend, Pulisic saw several of his fellow athletes take to the dance floor, and he did too.
