San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch appeared on Bay Area radio station KNBR Friday morning to share the latest on quarterback Brock Purdy’s injury. Purdy suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, significantly limiting his participation in practice this week.

Purdy’s shoulder pain kept him out of the team’s first two practices. The 49ers have one more practice scheduled for Friday before they head to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers this weekend.

Lynch acknowledged that neither Purdy nor the 49ers know exactly when the quarterback suffered the injury.

“I know he kind of struggled with it the whole game,” Lynch said. “And I’m not saying anything disrespectful, but I saw him throw a lot between games. Every time there was a pause in the game, he continued to throw. And I think in that moment, you probably feel something, but I think he was so focused on trying to win this game.

“We had a plan to try to calm it down. And we didn’t quit on Wednesday. Like we went out and just trained. On Thursday we started throwing a little and then went inside and did some rehab as planned.

“So we’ll see where he is today. Hopefully he makes progress and we have a chance this weekend, but we’ll see. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.”

Lynch said Purdy underwent an MRI earlier this week.

“We’re happy with where he’s at from that standpoint,” Lynch continued. “But still, you have to be able to go out and act. So we’re kind of figuring it all out. “Brock is going to be here today and we’ll see where he can go from a practice standpoint.” and we will make appropriate decisions.”

If Purdy is unable to play on Sunday, Lynch said Brandon Allen will start against the Packers. Both Allen and Josh Dobbs have practiced extensively this week as Purdy continues to recover.

“Brandon Allen and Josh Dobbs will both be ready, but Brandon will get the first snaps,” Lynch said.
