Extra bounce sends Virat Kohli back to pavilion against Australia in Perth Test

Dough “Star India” Virat Kohli went for five runs in the ongoing first Test against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth. There were huge expectations on the 36-year-old given his success Down Under and the cricketer looked in good rhythm before the extra bounce got the better of him in the 17th over of the first day. Notably, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and returner Devdutt Padikkal also failed to score, resulting in Kohli arriving at the crease early.

At first he used his front leg well, but Hazlewood bowled a short ball in the second 17th over that got the better of Kohli. The cricketer was again looking for a long delivery but was not expecting a bouncer. As he was already on his front foot, Kohli was unable to adjust his position, causing the ball to hit his bat and go straight to Usman Khawaja, who took a simple catch.

The former India captain had no intention of playing the ball and wanted to just get away from it, but the ball ended up touching the bat and it was inevitable for Kohli, who couldn’t get into position. After his dismissal, India were reduced to 32/3.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul looked good in the first session of the game. He replaced Rohit Sharma in the playing XI, who missed the Perth Test due to paternity leave. With the visitors under pressure, the senior batter took control and played some good shots to release him and he will be extremely important for the team considering they have already lost three wickets early on. A controversial DRS call by the third umpire led to Rahul’s dismissal, causing India to lose their fourth wicket in the first session.

During lunch, Dhruv Jurel and Pant battled for the score as the visitors managed to score 51 runs in the first 25 overs.
