HMDA introduces 10-day deadline for obtaining planning permission

Hyderabad: With criticism over delay in obtaining construction permits in Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HMDA), the authority has set a deadline for its officers to verify the files within 10 days for reviewing and processing applications.
HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad on Thursday said that a special attempt has been made to reduce the number of pending applications in HMDA beyond 30 days to zero from the last week of October. He said weekly checks and daily monitoring of pending applications were being carried out with good results. .
Several builders and developers had earlier alleged that HMDA took several months to approve building and planning permissions.
HMDA officials said there has been an increase in new applications within the authority this year, especially in the last three months. From June to October, HMDA received 1,884 applications, compared to 1,356 during the same period last year, a 39% increase over last year’s applications.
In terms of application disposals, the number increased from 2,038 to 2,332 in the three months from June to October, including pending applications, also up 14% from last year, officials said.
“These encouraging results continued into November. Compared to the previous year, the number of new applications and disposals registered an increase,” Ahmad said.
