State Bank of India guidelines against fake messages

Although a person may receive updates about an unknown bank account on their phone due to a bug in mobile registration, the chances of these messages being fake are zero.

State Bank of India has often warned its customers not to share any personal details or OTP on call after receiving such messages. SBI customers have also been warned not to click on unverified links sent in such SMS messages. These guidelines also apply in cases where customers receive SMS messages regarding an unknown SBI bank account.

In a social media post on X, government fact checker PIB warned people that SBI never asks for personal details via SMS or call. If people receive such a message, they should immediately report the incident to [email protected].

“The #Fake message issued in the name of SBI asks customers to update their PAN number to avoid having their account blocked. Never respond to emails/SMS asking for your personal or banking information. Report to [email protected],” PIB’s “Fact Check” post on X said.

As per SBI guidelines, customers should exercise extra caution while logging into their online banking ID. Also, people should only contact the SBI customer care numbers provided on the official website of SBI.
