Taylor Swift-loving Türkiye saves birds with farm sanctuary

Turkey Serena – Swifty.

The music-loving bird is now in his ‘refuge era’, living on a farm sanctuary with his bird friend Thelma, but life hasn’t always been a love story for the animal. According to Farm Sanctuary, Serena was born on a farm where she was painfully debeaked and sent to slaughter.

Serena’s new shelter rescued a turkey before it was killed to become a holiday dinner. At the shelter, Serena had time to develop and explore her hobbies. She quickly discovered that she enjoyed listening to Taylor Swift’s music.

Farm Sanctuary said the bird lights up every time it hears the singer and that “All Too Well” is Serena Swift’s favorite hit. A video of the turkey peacefully listening to the song has received more than 60,000 views on Farm Sanctuary’s Instagram.

While at Farm Sanctuary, Serena also discovered that she enjoyed helping other turkeys, whether it was comforting her best friend Thelma or helping other birds through Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey project.

Each holiday season, Farm Sanctuary encourages animal lovers to symbolically adopt one of their rescued turkeys for $35 instead of spending that money on a Thanksgiving turkey. These funds help Farm Sanctuary save more animals before they reach the dinner table, allowing animals to live out their wildest dreams. Serena is one of the birds people can adopt this year through Farm Sanctuary.

“Serena is a sweet little lovebird. She loves it when you sit with her, play music for her, and pet her. She closes her eyes and gives him a nice hug. “All turkeys deserve to enjoy the sweet moments in life,” Brooke Marshall, senior health manager at Farm Sanctuary, shared a statement to PEOPLE highlighting why people should take the turkey instead of eating it this Thanksgiving.

Serena isn’t the only one supporting Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey project. The mission has also attracted celebrity support. Rainn Wilson, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara and Corey Feldman are the stars who helped Farm Sanctuary save turkeys from becoming Thanksgiving food.
