Travel Tips: 6 Foods to Avoid at Airports

Travel Tips: 6 Foods to Avoid at Airports

When you’re on vacation, sushi becomes an acceptable 24-hour food option. However, eating airport sushi and other seafood can lead you straight to the toilet. This is because most of these dishes contain raw ingredients which, if stored at the wrong temperature for a long period of time, can cause serious digestive problems and other problems.

5. Fruit cups

The same logic used to avoid raw vegetables at the airport also applies to fruits. A fruit cup for breakfast sounds ideal—fresh and healthy—but more often than not, it’s contaminated with harmful germs that can linger on the produce if it’s not thoroughly washed. Additionally, fruit cups are often prepared in bulk and stored for several hours before being sold, during which time they can become contaminated with bacteria such as salmonella or develop mold.

6. Cream-based desserts

If you have a sweet tooth, you may naturally gravitate towards the dessert counter at the airport. However, we advise you not to choose a dessert with cream, no matter how delicious it may be. This is because such baked goods and cakes, if not stored at the optimal refrigerated temperature, can attract all sorts of harmful microorganisms. Try cookies instead.
