Apple is reportedly working on “LLM Siri” to compete with ChatGPT.

According to the report, Apple is planning an overhaul of Siri using artificial intelligence that will make the digital assistant more similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Live. BloombergThis is Mark Gurman. The assistant, reportedly called “LLM Siri”, will be powered by Apple’s artificial intelligence models and will allow users to interact with Siri in a more conversational and natural way.

As part of Apple’s plan to equip its iPhones with artificial intelligence, Bloomberg says the company will allow Siri to better handle more complex tasks. The assistant will have the “enhanced” ability to use App Intents to interact with third-party apps, as well as use Apple Intelligence to summarize and write text.

While Apple could announce these plans as early as next year, the company aims to replace the core Siri software with the new system in spring 2026. Bloomberg. During an interview with Wall Street Journall Last month, Apple’s senior vice president of software Craig Federighi hinted at how AI-enhanced Siri would differ from ChatGPT:

The properties of something like OpenAI Enhanced Voice Mode and Siri are completely different. This OpenAI mode is great if you want to ask a question about quantum mechanics and have it write a poem about it… It won’t open your garage. This will not help you send a text message. There are many, many useful things Siri does for you every day, quickly and locally on your device. There is a spectrum here, there is a compromise between possibilities. Will these worlds be able to converge? Of course, this is precisely the direction in which development is going.
