Houston Mayor to Announce Plan to Address Homelessness

HOUSTONHouston Mayor John Whitmire and community leaders are set to unveil a plan Thursday to address the city’s homelessness problem.

Details of the mayor’s plan have not been released, but it reportedly includes reducing the number of people sleeping on the streets, outreach, housing, law enforcement and reclaiming public spaces.

Those in attendance will include representatives from the City Department of Housing and Community Development, the Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security, the Houston/Harris County Homeless Coalition, Central Houston, Inc, and the Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD.
