Trump team ‘confident’ Senate Republicans will approve Cabinet picks

President-elect Trump’s team is confident Senate Republicans will approve his Cabinet picks – even though some of the choices have raised eyebrows among both Republicans and Democrats.

A Trump transition official confirmed to Fox News that the president-elect is “confident that Senate Republicans will hold the line.”

“President Trump is confident that Senate Republicans will hold the line and respect the will of the American people by approving his Cabinet nominees,” the official said.

The official said Trump is “very pleased” with the vice president-elect, saying Vance is “aimed to start working on his highly qualified nominees already.”

Trump’s most controversial choice so far has been Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., for attorney general. The choice came as a surprise to many because the firebrand has no law enforcement experience and is facing misconduct charges.

Gaets was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, which subpoenaed him as recently as September for an ongoing investigation into alleged sexual misconduct with a minor.

Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing and told the commission he will “no longer voluntarily participate” in the investigation. Gaetz resigned from Congress shortly after Trump made the announcement.

A source familiar previously told Fox News Digital that Gaetz is “working the phones” to allay concerns among GOP senators ahead of his confirmation hearing next year. He also travels with Vance to Capitol Hill to meet directly with senators.

“The meetings were productive: Attorney General nominee Gaetz listened to senators’ thoughts on the role of the Department of Justice and the confirmation process.
