Chris Bath and Charlie Pickering will join ABC Radio Sydney in 2025.

Experienced journalist and broadcaster Chris Bath, along with presenter and comedian Charlie Pickering, will be an integral part of the ABC Radio Sydney line-up in 2025.

Bath is about to take over the role Drive a car presenter in the new year, and Charlie Pickering will present Thank God it’s Friday! The announcement was made today at the ABC Upfronts in Sydney.

Bath was the master Evenings on ABC Radio Sydney from 2016 to 2019. She has been filling in periodically for Drive’s longtime acting president Richard Glover, who is stepping down from the role after 26 years, and, oddly enough, he was introduced by him at the event.

Bath said she felt “excited, scared, a little scared and nervous” about becoming the host of Drive.

“I’m still a little in disbelief. I always thought Richard would stay there forever.

“Every time I sit in this chair, I get a pretty healthy dose of impostor syndrome because I don’t know how anyone can be as good a TV presenter as Richard Glover.”

Bath has spent most of her career in television but is looking forward to working in radio full-time.

“What I love about radio is something that I think you can’t create on television, which is the sense of community that you can really have on the air.”

Pickering spoke about his appointment as host Thank God it’s Friday! “I’m honored to have ABC Radio Sydney’s much-loved program brought to Melbourne audiences on Channel 774 and across Australia on Radio National.

He reflected on Richard’s legacy: “Richard was kind enough to have me as a guest on TGIF many times over the years, and I’ve always been a big fan of his show. That it took me years to secretly undermine his authority at the ABC to finally get the job is testament to his status as one of Australia’s leading broadcasters.”

ABC Radio Sydney Acting Manager Pat Emmett said: “This is a real coup for ABC Radio Sydney and will add to our already strong roster of presenters.

Chris Bath is an Australian journalist, news presenter, radio and television presenter. She was born and raised in Sydney’s west. She has been a journalist and reporter/news anchor since 1988. She began her career at Sydney radio 2UE, then moved to news reader and reporter roles at Prime TV in Albury and NBN Television in Newcastle before spending two decades at the Sydney-based Seven Network. From 2016 to 2019, she hosted Evenings on ABC Radio Sydney.
