Genoa announces former Premier League icon as new coach

Genoa have confirmed Patrick Vieira has been appointed as their new manager, with the 48-year-old taking over from Alberto Gilardino after a difficult start to the season.

The Italian side have now won just two of their 12 games in Serie A and sit 17th in the top flight, one point ahead of Lecce in the relegation zone.

They now have a new coach and Vieira has received a two-year contract with Liguria.

He will be tasked with propelling them upwards for the rest of the campaign, as well as mending their relationship with star striker Mario Balotelli, who fell out at Nice.
