Council will consider recommendation to consolidate Lee’s Summit schools

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) – Recommendations have been made to the Lee’s Summit Board of Education, including a project to consolidate two elementary schools.

Members of the Lee’s Summit Citizens Advisory Committee met Tuesday evening, Nov. 19, to make recommendations for improvements to the facilities. Many of these will be financed through a potential bond issue in April 2025.

Recommendations include consolidating Lee’s Summit and Westview elementary schools and renovating Westview to accommodate new students.

Committee members noted that the decision was made despite negative reactions from parents due to declining enrollment at both schools.

The committee also recommended adding two new schools, Greenwood Elementary and Hazel Grove Elementary, and renovations to Pleasant Lee and Miller Park Middle Schools. Other recommendations include:

  • Maintenance and repair
  • Equipment
  • Unforeseen circumstances
  • Earth
  • Safety and security
  • Cool furniture
  • Athletics and Facilities
  • Hangar

The committee reminded community members that these are recommended projects only. The Board of Education will now consider the projects at its Dec. 19 meeting, with a vote expected. Until then, these recommendations will not be final.

The Citizen Advisory Committee is established by the Board of Education and includes parents, staff, community members and administrators.
