PHILADELPHIA – The Eagles ended their scoring drought in the first quarter and got a stunning performance from Saquon Barkley that had to be seen to be believed.

Barkley then scored again with the game tied at the Jaguars’ 19 with 22 seconds left in the first half, giving the Eagles a 16-0 lead at halftime.

It didn’t look like a happy return for former Eagles coach Doug Pederson, who is in his third season as Jaguars coach.

But almost everything fell apart after the Jaguars scored twice in 14 seconds in the third quarter. But DeVonta Smith’s 25-yard catch and Nakobe Dean’s interception in the end zone with 1:38 left sealed Sunday’s 28-23 win for the Eagles.

And the Eagles quickly stymied the Jaguars as they ended their season-long drought in the first quarter after Jacksonville’s Austin Trammell fumbled a punt following a hit by Sydney Brown.

Saquon Barkley scored on a 20-yard pass from Jalen Hurts for a 7-0 lead with 10:22 left in the first quarter. The Eagles kicked a field goal early in the second quarter to take a 10-0 lead.

That drive was highlighted by Barkley getting past the obstacle back over a Jaguars defender to convert on third down.

The Eagles had a great chance to extend their lead when rookie Cooper DeJean broke up Trevor Lawrence’s pass on fourth down at the Jaguars’ 39.

The Eagles faced 4th-and-3 from the Jaguars’ 22 and decided to go for a first down. Hurts threw to AJ Brown late, but Delaware native Darnell Savage broke up the pass and the Jaguars took over.

The Eagles had another chance just before halftime when Zach Baun intercepted Trevor Lawrence at the Jaguars 42. It looked like the Eagles would have to settle for a field goal when Johnny Wilson was called for offensive interference on his catch. landing.

The Eagles faced 3rd-and-17 from 19. But Jalen Hurts gave the ball to Barkley on the tying play, and Barkley got the touchdown with 22 seconds left.

The Eagles attempted a two-point conversion after a Jaguars penalty, but missed.

Hurts was 13 of 16 for 117 yards and a touchdown in the first half. Barkley had 61 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards.

Overall, the Eagles had a 187-32 yard advantage.

In the blink of an eye, the Jaguars scored two touchdowns, converting 2 points each time, cutting the Eagles’ lead from 22-0 to 22-16.

Trevor Lawrence’s 1-yard run with 5:26 left in the third quarter and the two-point conversion made it 22-8. Then on the Eagles’ first play from the 30, Barkley appeared to fall to the ground and lose the ball. Jacksonville’s Travon Walker picked up the ball and fired it from 35 yards out.

Barkley’s arm appeared to be down as he fumbled, but a review of the replay confirmed the touchdown.

Jalen Hurts kicked it in from 18 yards out to give the Eagles a 22-0 lead with 9:25 left in the third quarter. But wide receiver AJ Brown had already left the game with a knee injury, and left tackle Fred Johnson was injured on Hurts’ hit.

The second time, the Eagles attempted a two-point conversion after a Jaguars penalty. The Eagles were stopped every time.

Saquon Barkley continues to impress. This time it was the obstacle behind Jaguar DB Jarrian Jones. On 3rd-and-6 from the Jaguars’ 44, Barkley caught a pass from Jalen Hurts that sailed past Devin Lloyd. Then, with his back to the end zone, he took the shot over Jones.

Barkley gained 13 yards for the first down. The Eagles kicked a field goal to take a 10-0 lead with 9:20 left in the second quarter.

It took the Eagles 8 plays to score their first points of the first quarter, and they can thank the Jaguars.

The Eagles faced a 4th-and-1 at center field and lined up to attack. But Jack Stoll was called for a false start, so the Eagles punted. The Jaguars’ Austin Trammell caught the punt and was immediately picked off by Sidney Brown, who forced a fumble. Keeley Ringo recovered in the Jaguars’ 20th game.

One play later, Jalen Hurts hit Saquon Barkley for a 20-yard gain. That gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead with 10:22 left in the first quarter.

Eagles inactive: Darius Slay, Dallas Goedert out with injuries

The Eagles placed cornerback Darius Slay (groin) and tight end Dallas Goedert (hamstring) on their inactive list. Goedert misses third straight game.

Isaiah Rogers starts in Slay’s place. Other inactive Eagles players are QB Tanner Mackey, defensive back Tristin McCollum, defensive tackle Darian Kinnard and punter Trevor Keegan.

The Jaguars will be without their top two receivers as Christian Kirk was placed on injured reserve and Gabe Davis was sidelined with an injury. That leaves rookie Brian Thomas, who ranks sixth in the NFL with 573 yards. Thomas was listed as suspect due to a chest injury.

LeSean McCoy, the Eagles’ all-time leader in rushing yards, is being inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame.

McCoy played for the Eagles from 2009 to 2014, rushing for 6,792 yards. He also holds the franchise record for most yards in a game with 217. This came in the Snow Game against Detroit on December 8, 2013.

Delaware native Darnell Savage returns

Caravel Academy star Darnell Savage is in his first season with the Jaguars after signing a three-year, $21 million contract. Savage was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2019 draft. He famously returned an interception for a touchdown in Green Bay’s 48-32 playoff win over the Cowboys last season.

Savage has 14 tackles and zero interceptions in five games with the Packers.
