Rockville man arrested in Silver Spring shooting, charged with assault and reckless endangerment

GAITHERSBURG, MD. — A Rockville man has been arrested following a shooting incident in Silver Spring on Oct. 31 in which gunfire struck nearby residences, according to Montgomery County Police.

The shooting happened around 4:14 p.m. in the 14100 block of Whispering Pines Court. Officers from the 4th District responded to reports of a shooting, finding six shell casings at the scene and two bullet holes in nearby residences. No injuries were reported.

Investigators determined that the incident began with an argument between an adult male and female and a group of individuals. While searching the area, officers spotted a man matching the description of the suspect in the shooting. The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old Jason Edwards of Rockville. Officers also observed a woman leaving the area in a black Toyota Camry.

The 4th District SWAT Team stopped a Toyota Camry near New Hampshire Avenue and Cannon Road. Edwards, the front passenger of the vehicle, had an active warrant from Prince George’s County. He was taken into custody and the female driver was detained briefly before being released.

Police obtained search warrants for a Toyota Camry and a home linked to Edwards and the female driver. During the search, police found two pistols – a .22 caliber and a privately manufactured 9mm firearm (PMF) – along with spent cartridges.

Edwards faces charges of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the Silver Spring shooting. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Detention Facility on both an outstanding Prince George’s County warrant and new charges stemming from this case.
