Firefighter injured in Tompkins County fire

LANSING, N.Y. (WBNG) – Tompkins County Emergency Management says one firefighter was injured while battling a wildfire along Cayuga Lake in Lansing on the night of November 1st.

The Department of Emergency Situations said the firefighter was taken to the hospital and his injuries were not life-threatening. Two more victims were also provided with medical assistance on the spot.

Multiple small fires affected an area of ​​eight to 10 acres along East Shore Drive, according to the department.

Starting on Highway 13 near Stewart Park in Ithaca, East Shore Drive was closed to traffic until Oakcrest Drive. A portion of Cayuga Heights Road was also closed.

Several Tompkins County departments responded to the fires along with assistance from other counties including Cortlandville and Homer.

No evacuation orders were issued and no houses were damaged.

New York State Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
