Is the Chinese military ready to unveil its second stealth fighter at the Zhuhai Airshow?

China’s latest stealth fighter is expected to be formally unveiled at a major airshow this month, announcing its entry into service.

Yue Gang, a retired colonel, said it was “highly likely” the aircraft would be officially unveiled at an exhibition in Zhuhai in the southern province of Guangdong.

The State Aviation Industry Corporation of China posted a series of photos and videos of the FC-31 Gyrfalcon prototype on social media Thursday, marking the 12th anniversary of the plane’s first flight.

Most of the other posts with the same hashtag were announcements of aircraft that would be displayed at the air show.

This firm is the parent company of Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, which produces stealth fighters.

The fighter is the Chinese analogue of Lockheed Martin’s fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II. Its entry into service will make China the second country after the United States to have two types of stealth aircraft.
