Chief Advisor to the Interim Government Professor Muhammad Yunus today (November 3) called on young people to make up their minds and dream of positive changes in the country.

“I especially encourage young people to make a decision, to think and to dream. A dream is the beginning of change. If you dream, it will happen. If you don’t dream, it will never happen,” he said, addressing members of the National Defense Course and the Armed Forces Course. Forces (AFWC) National Defense College at its office in Tejgaon, Dhaka.

Welcoming the course participants and wishing them success, he told the youth: “Ask yourself: what can I do for the world?” Once you know what you want to do, you can do it because you have that power.”

He said that the young generation on the planet is currently the most powerful generation in human history. “Not because they are smart enough, but because they have enormous technology in their hands.”

“If you look at the student revolution, it’s all about technology. They (students) could communicate with each other very quickly. They did not have any command structure,” said Professor Yunus, adding that the technology is Aladdin’s lamp.

Regarding the student revolution, he said that the youth of the country want to see a new Bangladesh. The young people are not politicians and do not pursue any political goals, but they wanted to have a new country for themselves, he added.

Talking about global peace, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate said that most of the time people kill each other in the name of peace. “…but we are committed every day to ourselves, to all our statements and to all our philosophies. We want peace. Peace within the country, peace between countries and peace throughout the world.”

He said that he found it very funny that every government in the world had a Ministry of Defense, literally a Ministry of War, but no Ministry of Peace. “If your goal is peace, shouldn’t you create a ministry of peace?” – he asked.

Noting that people need to protect themselves from attacks, Professor Yunus emphasized that the world’s governments have both ministries – the Ministry of Peace and the Ministry of War. He also proposed introducing peaceful attacks into foreign relations along with defensive attacks.

The chief adviser said it was a self-destructing planet because “we’ve done everything to simply prepare ourselves to commit suicide.”

Giving an example, he said that people are destroying the environment to destroy the planet.

“We have created the wrong civilization – a self-destructive civilization,” he said, adding that every day people are destroying the planet.
