Actors often try to step out of their comfort zone and give new things a chance to avoid being pigeonholed into the classic category. Clint Eastwood also experimented in his career, resulting in him starring in a musical at one point in his career. The juxtaposition of Clint Eastwood and the musical seems strange, but it actually happened.

The actor starred in the 1969s. Color your van along with Lee Marvin and Jean Seberg. The film, about two miners living with the same wife in a gold rush-era California mining town, showed that Eastwood had no vocal talent and singing was not his forte.. This makes his performance in the musical even more amazing.

The Western star commented on her performance in Color your van years later in an interview with Empire, admitting that his casting was wrong and he knows he can’t sing.

I was crazy enough to try anything. I was always interested in music, my father was a singer and I had some knowledge about it. Although I wasn’t singing in that picture.

It wasn’t just his lack of musical talent that made Eastwood regret appearing in the musical. This also resulted in constant changes to the script, which ultimately completely changed the nature of the production.. This was no longer the picture that the actor signed up for.

I was away filming Where Eagles Dare and they flew in (Alan Jay Lerner and director Joshua Logan) and talked me out of it. It was much lighter, it just didn’t have the same dynamics that the original script had. And it was another long shoot… It wasn’t as pleasant an experience as I’m used to.

This is one of those films that Eastwood regrets being part of. However, he won’t erase it from his filmography, so he will have to face the fact that his attempt at a musical didn’t work out as well as he might have initially hoped. But if he had not tried, he would not have convinced himself that this genre was not created for him.
