Rajshahi received the first woman in the District of Columbia

Rajshahi district has a woman Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Judge for the first time in its 254-year history since 1769.

Afia Akhter today joined Rajshahi as the 127th DC. Prior to her new assignment, she worked as the Regional Settlement Specialist in Chattogram.

On December 16, 1769, the district was established, and Mr. C. W. Boughton Rouse was appointed the first district of Columbia.

Afia Akhter was born in Kotwali Thana in Jessore district and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Department of International Relations of the University of Dhaka in 1998 and 1999 respectively.

After joining as an Administrative Personnel Officer in 25 BCS, her first posting was in the Office of the Commissioner of Rajshahi Division as Assistant Commissioner.
