Three influential Naga organizations on Friday sent a 48-hour ultimatum to the Manipur government demanding justice for two Naga men who were reportedly “brutally beaten up” allegedly by the Meitei Arambai Tenggol group in Imphal.

The Naga People’s Organisation, Senapati District Students’ Association and Senapati District Women’s Association issued a joint statement setting a 48-hour deadline for the state government and said they would continue to seek justice for the two Naga men.

“The Manipur government must provide justice to both the victims without delay within 48 hours. Otherwise, we will have no choice but to take further action to protect our community. We also encourage all county citizens to remain vigilant and ready to act. let us unite in seeking justice for our Naga brothers,” the three Naga bodies complied.

Strongly condemning the attack by Arambai Tenggol, Naga organizations said the Meitei group brutally attacked V. Hrangao Blesson Pumaya and Dalou Pumaya on Thursday at Lamshang in Imphal.

“In addition, a sum of Rs 61,400 was confiscated at gunpoint from two youths. Despite providing proof of their identity, they were repeatedly threatened and attacked with automatic rifles, which violated basic human rights and undermined the fundamental values ​​of life, respect and dignity. This egregious act of violence has no place in our modern society,” Naga organizations said.

The Naga authorities said in a statement that the attack on Blesson and Dalou constituted a direct violation of their personal safety, dignity and fundamental rights.

“This is not only an attack on two people, but also an insult to the values ​​of entrepreneurship, hard work and contribution to society. This behavior undermines the principles of professionalism, respect and peace that our society strives to uphold,” they said.

Amid the ethnic violence that has occurred over the past 18 months between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribes, several incidents involving members of Naga tribes have occurred in Imphal.
