Scrapper Sisters Announce New Racer to Team Ahead of Las Vegas Strip

Scrappers Sisters have announced the expansion of their track line-up. By welcoming Top Fuel driver Travis Shumake to the fold, the team is looking to inject new energy into the team heading into the Ford Performance NHRA Nationals on the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Comprised of Top Fuel newcomers Jasmine Salinas and Pro Stock motorcycle racer Gianna Evaristo, the Scrappers team is loaded with talent. Since returning from her father Mike Salinas’ medical leave, Jasmine Salinas has had a strong first year, but her results haven’t always been as strong as she’d like.

Gianna Evaristo, on the other hand, is experiencing what can be called the peak of her career. Riding a stock Valley Services Scrappers Racing Pro motorcycle and training under Matt Smith Racing has prepared her for a potential breakthrough in Las Vegas, Drag Illustrated reports.

“I love competing in Las Vegas. It’s a fantastic place and I think we’ve peaked at the right time. The learning never stops and I love a challenge, but I’m ready to put this Buell in the winner’s circle.”

For Travis Shumake, joining the Scrappers team marks an important chapter in his evolving drag racing career. Travis, whose legacy dates back to his father, Tripp Shumake, a famous NHRA Funny Car driver, carries with him a deep history.

Having retired from drag racing following the tragic death of his father in 1999, Travis has renewed his racing ambitions in 2021. As the first openly gay driver in the NHRA, his commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the sport is as celebrated as his professional endeavors.

This event will be Travis’ fourth start of the season in his Gillette Labs Top Fuel dragster. He won’t be a rookie in the Rookie of the Year competition.

The Ford Performance NHRA Nationals on the Strip promises to be an action-packed event, taking place October 31st through November 3rd in Las Vegas. Fans can expect qualifying sessions to take place on November 1st and 2nd, with eliminations beginning at 11am on November 3rd.
