As the colder months approach, the Hotel’s Regional Aid Room program is reintroduced.

As the colder months approach, the Hotel’s Regional Aid Room program is reintroduced.

JACKSON, Tennessee. Without a men’s shelter in the Hub City, one life-saving program has been bridging that gap for more than 15 years.

The program is run by regional relief agencies and they are asking local churches to help with the initiative.

The Inn Room will be open from November to April, offering hot meals, warm beds and companionship during the winter months to homeless local men.

“These months are very important, they are cold. We don’t want anyone to be left on the street, so it’s very important to us to be able to provide shelter for those who are less fortunate and have nowhere to go,” said Fred McKinney. executive director of the regional ministry of assistance.

For 18 years, the program was a partnership between regional relief ministries and local churches.

ARM coordinates the program, providing training, learning resources and essential supplies such as sheets, blankets, towels, pillows and cribs.

ARM is asking local communities to get involved by opening their doors from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am as a shelter space and offering the men dinner and a light breakfast.

McKinney says volunteer opportunities aren’t just limited to communities. Organizations, civic groups and businesses can play a role.

“Just call us and we will tell you on those evenings that we need someone. They are welcome to join us and will find that this is a great opportunity to get to know the homeless in our community better. Communication is a big part. A lot of our men don’t feel valued or like they’re part of a community,” McKinney said.
