Fire at Richmond seniors home contained

Ottawa firefighters have contained a fire at a retirement home in Richmond.

Callers to 9-1-1 reported smoke was visible in one of the rooms of the building on Perth Street near Tarryn Terrace around 7:11 p.m.

There are no hydrants in the area, so water was brought in to extinguish the fire. By 20:06 it was declared that the situation was under control.

Two searches of the house found no one. An OC Transpo bus arrived on scene to keep residents warm while firefighters battled the fire.

According to the Ottawa Fire Service, the fire was extinguished and did not spread.

Ottawa paramedics said no one was injured.
