The student responded: “I think I would ask her, ‘How soon do you think we can pass the Equality Act?'”

Ruhle then asked the same student, “What about Donald Trump?” The student replied: “I would ask him: “Do you see me as a person?”

“Oh.” Roulet responded. There was silence and she appeared to be holding back tears before whispering to the student, “I’m so sorry.”

Many people noted the stark contrast between the students’ questions about the two candidates. One person said: “The fact that these issues are so far apart tells you exactly who you’re voting for.”

And finally, this person identified with the facilitator’s emotional reaction to the student’s answer. “It shows how many of us feel… like we’re being punched in the gut and there’s nothing we can do about it other than apologize for why it’s happening.”
