Dare County’s Only Homeless Shelter Reopens Its Doors to Guests

OBX Room in The Inn (RITI), Dare County’s only homeless shelter, reopened today for its sixteenth season. Serving the Dare County community since 2009, RITI is open to those in need of immediate or short-term shelter.

Shari Fywash, President and CEO of RITI, commented on today’s opening, the shelter’s significant work in the Dare County community and its guests: “We at OBX Room In the Inn are incredibly proud of the role we play in Dare County, serving our community members who for a number of reasons they found themselves homeless. Our guests may need us for a night or two, or they may need to take advantage of social services and stay with us for a while. Regardless of the need, we make every effort to assist our guests and ensure their safety and health. I am happy to say that each season, the majority of our guests reach a point where they are able to find work, but unfortunately do not have a place to live.”

Ms Fyvish continued: “Unfortunately we are currently unable to operate all year round as we rent premises which are used during the summer months. We’ve learned all too well over sixteen seasons that homeless people never have a day off. We are working hard to ensure this issue is resolved. We pray that with the help of the community, our dream of a year-round shelter will become a reality.”

Room In The Inn guests have access to available community resources and assistance when needed. They receive three meals a day, clothing, and companionship with those who truly care about their health and well-being.

Donations are always welcome and can be made through the RITI donation site https://givebutter.com/dS5tB.
