Starting Monday, Tuscaloosa will accept toys for parking tickets.

Tuscaloosa will once again bring some holiday cheer to the bleak occasion of paying a parking ticket and allow residents to meet demands by donating toys to children in need.

The initiative began five years ago when Mayor Walt Maddox announced in 2019 that the city would accept donated toys in lieu of cash payments for overtime parking tickets during the holiday season.

Now his initiative will return for a fifth Christmas season, starting this Monday, November 4th. Again, anyone who wants to take care of the $18 overtime parking fine can instead donate a gift of $10 or more to Toys for Tots at the collection point at City Hall and see the fine forgiven.

Any toy valued at $20 or more will be accepted as compensation for two overtime penalties.

Those interested in participating can bring their toys to the Tuscaloosa Municipal Court at 2122 Gary Fitts Street from November 4 to December 5.

Please also bring a receipt or price tag to prove that the toys meet the price requirements for ticket forgiveness.
