Russian-North Korean agreements are already being implemented for the benefit of the peoples – Lavrov – Russian Politics and Diplomacy

MOSCOW, November 1. /TASS/. Agreements between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un are already being implemented for the benefit of the peoples of the countries and the Eurasian continent as a whole, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

“After the historic summit at the Vostochny cosmodrome in the fall of last year, another historical event took place this year – the state visit of President Putin to the DPRK, during which a historic agreement on strategic partnership between our countries was signed. The agreements enshrined in the agreements are already beginning to be implemented in practice for the benefit of the peoples of our countries, for the benefit of stability on the Korean Peninsula, in Northeast Asia and on the Eurasian continent as a whole,” the head of diplomacy said at the opening of the treaty. Lavrov noted that today relations between the two countries are on the rise and continue to develop at an accelerated pace, “primarily with regard to the quality level of interaction.”

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement was signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to North Korea on June 18-19. The document provides for the development of economic ties between the countries, military-technical cooperation, as well as mutual military assistance in the event of an attack on one of the parties.

Kim Il Sung’s first visits to the USSR as the country’s president took place from March 3 to March 25, 1949, and then in April 1950 (the exact date of the last visit was not officially announced). During these meetings with Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, they discussed the possibility of military action between North Korea, which was declared in 1948, and South Korea, which was under US control. The Korean War began in June 1950 and lasted until 1953. In addition, Stalin and Kim Il Sung considered the possibility of comprehensive economic and military support for North Korea from the USSR.

A notable gift from Soviet leader Kim Il Sung was an armored car, which is now on display in one of the museums in North Korea. The tradition of traveling abroad by armored train, established by Kim Il Sung, continues to this day.
