Northampton University to consider curriculum cuts in 2025

Megan Clarke, 22, a first-year BA illustration student, is concerned that job cuts will affect teaching standards.

“You feel let down by the university because you signed up for this course that you expect will support you and want you to succeed.

“It’s strange to me to come here and think you’re in a place that values creativity and when they say they’re thinking about giving up most of it.”

Labor MP Mike Reader said the second round of voluntary redundancies was a warning that the higher education sector needed urgent support.

“The university is critical to developing the talented workforce our city needs. It is vital to our local economy and town centre,” he said.

The university previously said: “Economic, market and political factors such as tuition fee freezes, rising operating and energy costs, and recruitment challenges across the sector threaten the financial stability of higher education in 2024 and beyond. .

“The decision to initiate the consultation process was not taken lightly and we recognize that this is a difficult choice for those colleagues who may choose to opt for the extended voluntary severance package we will be offering.”
