I can’t admit that I’m a fan of the vacuum cleaner. While I enjoy having a clean and tidy home, I don’t like spending time doing housework when I could be cooking a treat in the kitchen.

For this reason, I’m always looking for quick tips to make my daily chores easier because despite my best efforts to teach my two boys to jump into the cleaning cart, I failed miserably!

Having one of the best vacuum cleaners has definitely made my life easier, especially using a cordless vacuum means I can clean my entire house without tripping over a cord or finding a convenient outlet every time I change rooms. And as long as I remember to charge my appliance, I can vacuum up the entire job in one fell swoop.

However, while using a cordless vacuum cleaner makes cleaning my home easier, I really want to learn other tricks that will make removing dirt and dust more efficient. So, when I came across the above clip from TikTok, I couldn’t wait to try it.

Here’s how to copy the one vacuuming trick that @nicole_thenomad calls the best cleaning technique she’s ever discovered.

1. Take a vacuum cleaner and place long hose nozzle at the end.

2. Then take dryer sheet and secure it to the end of the hose. using ponytail headband.

3. Turn on the vacuum cleaner and work along the edge of the baseboard using a long hose.

4. Any dirt and lint will collect on the outer surface of the dryer sheet.

How does a dryer sheet work?
Dust and debris collect on the dryer sheet rather than being sucked into the vacuum cleaner’s dust collector. Nicole says the dryer sheet also leaves a waxy film on the baseboards, which helps prevent dust and debris from accumulating in the future. As an added bonus, she says, “Not only will it clean your baseboards, but it will also leave a nice, fresh smell.”

Why is using a dryer sheet a good idea?

I love it when an everyday household item can be used in ways other than how it was originally intended. And this cleaning hack turns the humble dryer sheet into another small and powerful tool.

This works the same way as in a dryer. Located at the end of the vacuum nozzle, it attracts and holds lint and other debris. So, just like a dryer sheet removes lint from your clothes, it does the same job on baseboards.

If you choose scented dryer sheets, they will not only remove lint, but also leave behind a pleasant scent. The same applies to your baseboards and you will have a clean home that smells great.

Protects your skirting boards too

I also find that I often strip the paint off my baseboards when I use the vacuum cleaner, which means they can quickly look shabby, even after being freshly painted. Placing a drying film on the end of the vacuum hose adds an extra layer of protection and can therefore help prevent nasty chips and dents.
