But the next day Diana, in her black off-the-shoulder dress, made an even bigger splash in the newspapers. The dress attracted attention again, and for a completely different reason.

On Thursday, Swedish model Elsa Hosk shared a video of her 2024 Halloween costume with the caption “The People’s Princess,” and the internet was completely divided. Some love her look, others are unhappy and say it was “pretty disrespectful” that she chose to recreate this particular Diana look for her Halloween costume.

The original LBD was designed by Christina Stambolian. Like Diana, Elsa paired the bodycon, off-the-shoulder dress with a layered pearl necklace adorned with sapphire and diamonds, a matching sapphire bracelet and pearl drop earrings. She also posted photos of herself and wrote, “Wishing you a MEANINGFUL Halloween.”

Naturally, as soon as the model shared a video of herself wearing the “revenge dress” on Instagram, people had a lot to say.

Reaction to Elsa Hosk’s Halloween costume

“This is just awkward and disrespectful,” read a comment on the model’s video. An Instagram user also said, “You look great and wear it well, but it’s not a Halloween look. IMHO (in my opinion) that’s pretty disrespectful.”

Another said: “This is wrong… it’s disrespectful and hurtful to see.” The comment also read: “Not only is this disrespectful, it’s downright obscene! As if anyone would be happy to see someone from their family die tragically, dressed up as a costume for a consumer holiday and “fun.”

Some people, however, didn’t mind Elsa’s Halloween costume at all. One wrote: “Actually won Halloween.” Another said: “I gasped! You won Halloween this year!” Someone agreed, writing: “I’m crazy about you and this Halloween outfit!” The comment also said: “Princess Diana would have loved this.”
