Halloween events will take place today in Petaluma

Halloween doesn’t just happen. It takes a lot of hardworking people, making a lot of plans, making a lot of costumes, hanging a lot of plastic bats on trees – all while coming up with great new ideas for how to share the spookiest of holidays with the entire community.

For example, neighbors who worked for weeks to prepare a special Stranger Things show for magic fans. This is one of many ways to enjoy Halloween in Petaluma this year, including numerous opportunities to trick-or-treat on the big day.

The Stranger Things Experience

A group of eight Petaluma families—all of whose homes are located on a residential cul-de-sac at the corner of Jacqueline Lane and Amethyst Court in the Curry Heights neighborhood—have collectively created a “Stranger Things” experience based on the hit TV show. .

And tonight they will share it with the community. Although work was still underway around noon on Halloween, the plan is to open the walk-up “sanctuary” to the public around sunset and keep it open until about 9 p.m.

“This is going to be fun,” said Jimmy Hickman, who was preparing to hang Christmas lights on the garage wall while putting the finishing touches on what will become the home of the show’s Byers family. “Back there,” he said, pointing to a makeshift wall, “we’ll have the Upside Down and all that.” It was a lot of work, but we all enjoy it.”

The Netflix sensation starring Petaluma’s Winona Ryder is set in the fictional town of Hawkins and includes details such as a mysterious scientific compound, the aforementioned danger-filled netherworld called “The Upside Down” and a demonic creature known as the Demogorgon.

It’s an ominous creature that towered over Hickman as he stood in the driveway, a massive winged monster stretching across the yard, tied to the house on both sides. The Halloween effort is largely due to Hickman’s appreciation for Stranger Things and the help and support of his neighbors who share his enthusiasm.

But it won’t end with Halloween, Hickman said. Following tonight, the Petaluma Stranger Things experience will repeat on Friday night and again on Saturday, November 2 starting at approximately 6:00 p.m.

“It will be kind of a party atmosphere on Saturday,” he explained, adding that the experience will likely become even more challenging by then. “We will have a few more family members coming in to play characters and participate. If people like it, who knows, maybe we’ll make it even bigger next year. Maybe we should add Starcourt Mall.”
