Northeast Florida Lawmakers Call for Audit of USPS Jacksonville Facility Over Lost and Delayed Mail

JACKSONVILLE, FL. – Customers are reporting that important packages are being delivered to the wrong states, and in some cases mail is being lost altogether. These problems have led to calls for a federal audit of the United States Postal Service (USPS) in Jacksonville.

Congressman John Rutherford and four other U.S. Representatives from northeast Florida and Georgia are calling for an audit of the Jacksonville Network Distribution Center (NDC).

Congressman Rutherford shared his concerns with News4JAX and emphasized the importance of timely delivery of essential supplies, especially medications and medical checkups.

“I’m concerned about people not getting their medications on time, their checks not getting on time, things like that,” Rutherford explained.

Congresswoman Rutherford, along with Representatives Aaron Bean, Michael Waltz, Kat Cammack and Buddy Carter, signed a letter to the USPS Inspector General. In the letter, they call for an investigation into the Jacksonville NDC after receiving numerous complaints from constituents about lost or delayed mail.

“I think they have a lot of work to do, so we sent a letter encouraging them to try to resolve these issues,” Rutherford added.

The letter highlights that the Jacksonville NDC is currently being renovated to become a Regional Processing and Distribution Center (RPDC). Despite these changes, NDC continues to process high volumes of parcels, leading to growing concerns about delays.

USPS customers have expressed similar concerns.

Brittany Rudd shared her recent experience: “We had an issue with a certified package that didn’t arrive at all. There was no tracking and it was difficult to contact anyone to resolve the issue.”

The missing package contained a cash receipt, which made the problem even more pressing.

Another USPS customer, who wished to remain anonymous, shared a more unusual story.

“I received a couple of housewarming gifts and one didn’t show up until 10 years later when my neighbor found it in a large package storage box.”

While some USPS customers reported problems, others noted that their delivery was on time and without any problems. It remains unclear at this time whether the Inspector General will proceed with the requested review.
