A baby powder recall due to possible asbestos contamination has expanded to cover more than half of the United States, including Ohio.

Here’s how to tell if you’re affected.

FDA Expands Dynacare Baby Powder Recall Due to Possible Asbestos Contamination

This week, the US Food and Drug Administration extended the recall of Dynacare Baby Powder, made by Dynarex Corporation, due to concerns. The initial recall in September covered 62 cases spread across a dozen states. The expanded recall covers 1,020 cases sent to 35 states, including Ohio. Products were also sold through Amazon.

The recall was the result of a routine sampling program conducted by the FDA that showed the finished product contained asbestos. Upon further investigation, the company identified additional batches of products that may contain asbestos due to the use of the same bulk talc.

The company has stopped distributing the product while an investigation is conducted to determine the cause of the talc contamination.

According to the FDA, no illnesses or side effects have been reported to date.

What is asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that is often found near talc, an ingredient in many cosmetic products.

However, asbestos is a known cancer-causing carcinogen, and its health risks are well documented.

“If talc mining sites are not carefully selected or if proper measures are not taken to adequately purify the talc ore, it may contain asbestos,” the FDA warning states.
