Labor Party condemns former Treasurer’s bid to become national women’s leader

The Labor Party has issued a public disclaimer against Ms Oluchi Opara, a former national treasurer who the party says is falsely representing herself as a national women’s leader.

In an official statement released through X on Thursday by National Publicity Minister Obiora Ifo, the party clarified that Opara was suspended indefinitely in November 2023 for “anti-party activities” and stressed that she was never elected or appointed as a national MP . Women leaders.

“The leadership of the Labor Party has become aware of the illegal activities of the former National Treasurer of the party, Mrs. Oluchi Opara, who was reportedly parading herself as the National Women Leader of the party,” the statement read.

The Labor Party further described Opara’s actions as impersonation, accusing her of misrepresenting the office in an attempt to gain financial gain.

“A person who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others, especially for fraudulent gain, is an impostor,” the statement said.

According to the Labor Party, Opara reportedly attended various forums and events under the guise of a national women’s leader, allegedly with the intention of soliciting financial support.

“This development has placed the Labor Party in a very awkward position,” the statement said, calling its actions “questionable.”

The party has confirmed that the legitimate national leader of women is Mrs. Dudu Manuga, who has the sole authority to oversee the activities of Labor Party women in Nigeria and abroad.

The party warned organizations including the Inter-Party Advisory Council, the Cook Foundation and government and security agencies to be wary of alleged attempts to impersonate Opara.

The party also called on any person or organization approached by Opara to contact the police immediately.
