Car crashes into Johnston County home after high-speed chase :: WRAL.com

A car crashed into a home in Johnston County Tuesday night after being led on a high-speed chase by Wilson Mills police officers.

According to authorities. A Wilson’s Mills police officer attempted to stop a vehicle speeding through a work zone on U.S. Highway 70, but the driver sped away.

Police said the chase reached speeds of more than 182 mph. The driver turned off his headlights and the police lost sight of him.

A short time later, officers received a report of a “vehicle crashing into a house” on Creech’s Mill Road near Smithfield. Police said the driver drove through a field to elude authorities, then crossed someone’s yard before destroying a large pumping station, becoming airborne and crashing into a house.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker was at the crash site.

Police said when crews arrived, they found the injured driver sitting at a picnic table in the yard of the damaged home. The car ended up in the bedroom of the former homeowner, who moved out two weeks ago.

The driver was taken to WakeMed with minor injuries and the home was condemned by a Johnston County building inspector.

Police said the driver faces multiple charges.
