Lit GR, a historic 137-year-old building in the city center, is up for sale

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A Grand Rapids building built in 1887 is up for sale.

Lit GR is an event venue that mainly hosts weddings. The site at 61 Sheldon Boulevard was home to a women’s literary club for many years.

The 6,962-square-foot property is on the market for approximately $900,000, but has rental options.

According to Rye Venues, which manages the building, it is currently business as usual and the company is committed to making the process smooth for clients and ensuring their events go on as planned.

Rye Venues CEO Rob DeVerna released a statement about the sale:

The property at 61 Sheldon Ave SE, where The Lit GR is located, is for sale, although no deal is currently being considered. Rye Venues manages the operations but does not own the properties. We have been proactively reaching out to clients with events scheduled more than six months out to offer options as a future buyer may not continue to use the premises at this time.

The site remains open and fully operational and we do not expect any impact on events planned over the next six months. Most of the affected customers have moved to our other locations, and some are still considering their options. One cancellation received a full refund.

We are committed to providing a smooth experience for all our customers and will share updates as needed.
