US Election Live News: With 1 week to go Harris speaks in Washington as Trump stumps Pennsylvania

US Vice President Kamala Harris will spend election night at Howard University in Washington, the historically black college where the Democrat attended 40 years ago, her spokesman told AFP on Tuesday.
On November 5, Harris will either become the first woman to occupy the White House or be defeated by Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Howard University, nicknamed “Black Harvard,” was founded in 1867, shortly after the American Civil War, and enrolls thousands of African Americans who make up the majority of its students.

It is one of the United States’ HBCUs, or historically black colleges and universities, that emerged during a period of racial segregation and remains influential.

Harris graduated from Howard in 1986 and maintains close ties to the institution.
